5 Beautiful Spots to See Bluebonnets in the Texas Hill Country
Every spring, the Texas Hill Country transforms into something that feels almost too beautiful to be real. The roadsides explode in waves of deep blue and violet, the air carries the sweetness of wildflowers, and for a few precious weeks, our corner of Texas becomes one of the most photographed places in the country. If you haven't experienced bluebonnet season from Boerne, TX — you are missing something truly special.

1. Highway 290 East Toward Johnson City
Drive east on US-290 from Fredericksburg toward Johnson City in late March or early April and you'll find mile after mile of bluebonnets mixed with Indian paintbrush and evening primrose. Pull over anywhere safe — you won't be the only one stopping for photos. Families throughout the San Antonio Hill Country metro make this an annual tradition.
2. Willow City Loop (Near Fredericksburg)
If you want one of the most spectacular wildflower drives in the state, the Willow City Loop is it. This 13-mile scenic loop winds through private ranch land and produces some of the densest bluebonnet blooms you'll find anywhere. Plan to go on a weekday morning to avoid weekend traffic. About one hour from Boerne — absolutely worth it.
3. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
The approach along Ranch Road 965 and the surrounding meadows often deliver stunning wildflower displays. After the flowers, hike the granite dome for panoramic Hill Country views in full spring color. Timed-entry passes are required — book ahead at Texas Parks & Wildlife.
4. Comfort, TX & the Road to Kerrville
The drive from Boerne toward Comfort on Highway 27, then north on Highway 16 toward Kerrville, offers gorgeous rolling meadow scenery in wildflower season. Stop in Comfort for lunch and a stroll through the antique shops — a perfect slow-travel Hill Country morning.

5. Right Here in Kendall County
Here's what people forget: you don't have to drive far. The fields around Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, and throughout Kendall County produce beautiful wildflower displays every spring. Keep your eyes open along FM 1621, FM 474, and the back roads around Balcones Creek, Corley Farms, and Tapatio Springs. Living in Boerne TX means this kind of beauty is practically in your backyard — and it's one of the many reasons our team loves this community so deeply.
Bluebonnet peak bloom typically falls between late March and mid-April in the Boerne area. Timing varies year to year with winter rainfall. Watch local social media for real-time bloom updates!
